Lawless

When the law became corrupt, outlaws became heroes.

Let me just dive right into ranting about how much I loved this movie. Again, I'm not an action junkie. But I do enjoy history, gangsters... Gary Oldman. Well, to be frank, I walked into this movie solely based on the fact that it had Guy Pierce, Gary Oldman, and Tom Hardy - on those factors alone I thought I would enjoy the film. I also was proud to see Shia Lebeouf actually turn a new leaf to some quality acting.

A story based on the three Bondurant brothers, all moonshiners. Each has significant traits that the others differ from. Forrest fears nothing, and no one. Howard fights like a drunk, because he is in fact quite the drunk. And Jack differs the most from his two brothers as he lacks that streak of violence and courage his brothers have.

Tom Hardy's character: Forrest, a man of very few words. A man that believes his own invincibility - he survived the war, and during the film, several other dangerous encounters. He favors brass knuckles, and pretty redheads - and holds his family to high standards. They are meant to be men, protective, working men. Forrest, was probably my favorite character due to the fact that he said so little, but his violent actions said so much.

Gary Oldman played a gangster (Floyd Banner) like a boss. Mowing down a moving vehicle with his own Tommy Gun. Great scene, ripped through the car and wrecked anyone and everything inside. Then he smoothly walked away - calmly, even left Jack with an encouraging wink. He was what Jack wanted to be, a brave man with money, power, and control. But Jack only envied those things, he did not become them until the end of the film. However, if he had overcome them sooner - the film would've ended a lot sooner.

A coming of age tale amidst a criminal family, while fighting the law. I honestly think what made this movie was the dedicated cast, incredible acting, and the eerie creeping of violence that you craved throughout the film.

Guy Pierce play an astoundingly frightening role. The law-man determined to shut down all the stills in Franklin County, Virginia. Frightening to the point of, he almost craves violence himself - and when he meets the Bondurant brother they have no problem but dishing it out. It's a creative game of battling between one another - hiring mercenaries, dealing with criminals, standing up for what you and your family believe in and the sheer guts to do what needs to be done, and how far you're willing to go.
