Dark Night Rises
Return of a Hero, Marked as a Villan - To Battle Chaos:
Of course, what kind of blog would this be if I didn't talk about the hot topic of today? Christian Bale, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Anne Hathaway, Marion Cotillard, Tom Hardy... and the ever so wonderful Gary Oldman. I love a film filled to the brim with a good cast. That's one thing that always gets me excited. I'll see a strange off-beat film just for the sake of seeing someone I admire. And honestly, action is not my favored drama, but I'll enjoy it nonetheless.
Time has slipped away from those in Gotham City. It seems that living under the shadow of a false idol has kept them warm for quite some time. But it's only a matter of time before someone puts a stop to it, and is so big and bad that another fallen hero must rise to the rescue.
Our Batman is not the man we used to know, he he frail, weak, and unexciting. He had 'retired' as it were. Of course, he wouldn't expect to have to come out of the woodwork, the work of Harvey Dent (Pre-Accident) had left Gotham happy, and the Dark Knight was no longer needed. But with some curious workings, and a masked man - things swiftly changed.
I enjoyed the lapse of time. Seeing how time away from work can leave one... aged. He wasn't a hero in any aspect limping around with a cane. Almost... hopeless in a way. But Bruce is so persistent, that nothing will stop him from protecting the citizens he's protected for so long. And Alfred admitting to the letter written by Rachel - finally let's Bruce move on from losing her. All this time, blaming himself - honoring her by waiting, as he thought she was doing for him, when in fact - the letter told all.
The reveal of Batman's identify by Blake (Levitt), was intriguing, as he had always known as a child. Never revealing it to anyone, but quietly putting the puzzle pieces together. It quickly dawned on me (like early teaser dawned on me,) Blake is in fact, Robin. Nolan couldn't end the Trilogy without another fun DC comic storyline to play with, that wouldn't be any fun now would it?
